Lochlea Distillery Our Barley

With Lochlea, the Scottish distillery landscape has recently grown to include an independent, family-run farm distillery. It is not only the former Laphroaig Distillery Manager and current Lochlea Production Director and Master Blender, John Campbell, who is responsible for the distinctive style of their single malt. As one of only four distilleries in Scotland, Lochlea uses only barley from its own cultivation and distils and matures its whisky on site. From the field to the bottle, Lochlea Single Malt is thus traceable - in keeping with the distillery's motto, "Dare to be honest".

Now the permanent core release from the farm distillers is here. Lochlea Our Barley is the result of the cask recipe perfected by John Campbell and a blind tasting with the distillery team. The single malt Scotch whisky from the Lowlands is matured in a sophisticated combination of first fill bourbon barrels, Oloroso sherry butts and STR barriques, i.e. "scraped" or "shaved", "toasted" and "recharred" wine casks. At an ideal drinking strength of 46% vol., the whisky leads from pear syrup and fruit sweets on the nose to fresh fruit and cereal notes on the palate to macadamia nuts and orange beeswax.

Aroma:
Strong aroma of pear syrup and fruit sweets, followed by hints of spicy jam and cinnamon

Palate:
Typical Lochlea notes of fresh fruit and cereal with luscious light syrup.

Aftertaste:
Macadamia nuts, cream soda with vanilla notes and a wonderful lingering note of orange beeswax.
